"It begs the question, what is a dream? What is a thought? What do they share? and what do they not?" -Marcus Sherman March 21, 2019
What is the difference between a dream and a thought? At first the answer may seen obvious, but is it really? one may argue that a dream happens when you sleep and a thought happens when you are awake. but does that mean you cant think while you dream? Or dream while you think?
Yes, yes there is a difference between a dream and a thought. But its sciency.
A thoughts are connected to consciousness and neural activity/connections whereas a dream is a "Random" Mix of conscious and subconscious origins. A thought can be a picture, sound, or a memory that are fabricated in our brains in some mysterious fashion. Scientist can only really guess as to what causes a thought and how they work. In other words, we don't really know.
Dreams are just as mysterious. Dreams are stories, pictures, or sounds that are generated in our minds during an "Idle" state such as sleeping. Day dreaming is when you create and or envision a alternate waking reality in your mind and thus become unaware of the passing time and events around ones self.
(Keep in mind that there are many different definitions of both dreaming and day dreaming. But that doesn't make any of them wrong.)
So that leaves the final question. Are they related? The answer is...drum roll please, MAYBE!
I say maybe because it is possible that they are related though without a definite definition of what dreaming and thinking are it is impossible to know if they are connected.
