Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Is serious.

Imagine being a parent, waking up one day, going to your kid’s room, and attempting to get them out of bed. However, there’s no response. Now you initially think that your kid is either in really deep sleep or joking around; however, after getting not even a slight response for a while, you get worried and call the doctors. When at the hospital, you learn that your kid is in a critical condition and past the point of no return. Later you learn that the cause of death for your kid was a Carbon monoxide leak from a faulty water heater, with the most tragic part of the story being that the kid’s death could have been avoided had a simple $20 detector been installed by the owners of the building you were staying at. Sadly this story was very much a reality for Elysha Schlichter, for her son Trai died in that exact manner three years ago. Tragically he wasn’t alone, with 50 Canadians dying annually from carbon monoxide leaks and hundreds more being injured. Although the rates are low, it could still happen at any time as it did for this family. At the bottom of this article will be linked to various petitions relating to this matter.

Sadly I myself never met Trai, so I cannot say how much of a tragedy his death was to his friends and family. However, an associate of mine did, and so the rest of the article shall be written by him.

Trai was a 12-year-old boy who had lots of hopes and dreams in life. He planned out his life and wanted to go to college. He knew one-day college would take him somewhere and earn him lots of money because he was very smart for his age. Trai had lots of friends and was always willing to make more. He enjoyed things like playing paintball and taking apart things.

I personally got to know him.

Trai died as a result of a carbon monoxide poisoning leak in his family's apartment. This is a very deadly gas that is not noticeable through smell and is something important to learn about and can be prevented with a carbon monoxide detector that you can plug in your wall. Now due to Trai’s death, over 9,869 Albertans have learned about carbon monoxide, and 8,800 people have signed a petition requesting that carbon monoxide detectors be mandatory in the Canadian province Alberta; but we want this awareness to spread worldwide. The sad fact is that over 300 Canadians are hospitalized every year from carbon monoxide positioning and end up with permanent life problems.

Please, everyone, understand this is a serious matter; this could happen anytime without you knowing it. You may think the rates are low until it happens to someone you care about. I always thought to myself, things like this aren’t going to happen, but they do; you just don’t realize that until it’s too late. Please look more into getting a carbon monoxide detector not just for yourself but for the people who live with or around you.
