Mars, Our Future Home

Mars, the Red planet. With a surface area only 1/3 that of Earth and a paper thin atmosphere, Mars doesn't seem like a great future home for humanity. While it is true that Mars is rather 'hostile' it is also true that Colonizing Mars also would be of great economic value.

Mars would be of great economic value because of water ice located at its poles, and a methane rich atmosphere. These are useful because water, when broken down into oxygen and hydrogen, can be used as a rocket fuel. Methane can also be used as a rocket fuel for Space X's new Raptor engines. This almost infinite source of fuel would allow for planetary and orbital refueling of space craft. An orbital refueling station above Mars would allow for interstellar travel.

Also, Because Mars's gravity is 1/3rd of Earths, it takes 1/3rd the energy to reach orbit. This means that rockets could be built smaller and lighter.

Mining ore and other materials would also be of value because it could allow for the construction of rockets and other vehicles on Mars. (sorry, a bit off topic.)

Mars has a mass of 6.4171x10 to the 23rd power, a surface area of 144'798'500 km, and a average orbital speed of 24.007 km/s

Companies such as Space X have declared Mars as there target, saying that they are to have a colony of at least 1000000 by 2050. This is to be accomplished using the Star Ship. The Star Ship is a beast of a craft. It has a length of 55m (180ft) and a diameter of 9m (30ft). The Starship is the 2nd stage of the BFR, a launch vehicle being developed by SpaceX as a re-usable launch vehicle that carries the Starship, Long distance, cargo and passenger faring space vehicle for Martin and Earth travel.

The BFR, the launch vehicle for the Starship, is MASSIVE! It has a length of 118m (387ft) and has a diameter of 9m (30ft), Like the Falcon 9, the BFR is to be re-usable, capable of landing back on the launch pad. As of 2019, the Starship or rather the Star Hopper, is being built and has been tested, hovering a max of 400ft above the ground using the newly developed raptor engines.

For some, the thought of packing up and moving to Mars may seem like a terrifying experience, and as they say, Different strokes for different folks. I personally think that going to Mars would be an exhilarating experience, and would go in an instant. But im not judging.

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!
